The New Wandsworth Museum
Introduction
The Wandsworth Museum houses exhibitions and objects that tell the story of the region we now know today as the Borough of Wandsworth, from 25,000 years ago to the present day.
Throughout its history, people from all over the world have made their homes in Wandsworth.
Take a walk through the centuries and uncover how they lived their lives and how your own story links you to this rich legacy.
The Museum was created through the support of the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, the Friends of the Wandsworth Museum, the Wandsworth Borough Council and many other supporters. Wandsworth Museum is a private charity and as such receives no direct support from any governmental funding bodies to operate its facilities. We depend on the support of the local community through membership donations and the monies generated through the museum’s trading activities.

The Museum
Over the past year the Wandsworth Museum team have transformed the old West Hill Library facility into a new and state-of-the-art museum and gallery. This was a true labour of love and followed the principle of retaining the best from the original building and its fabric while updating and improving the site to meet modern regulations and requirements. The museum team decided early on to make the museum facility an exemplar of sustainability and have put in place systems to ensure the building is able to run at the most efficient and lowest costs possible. We are proud to say that we are the first museum in the World to have all its lighting provided by LED lamps. This is not only good for us in terms of the very low power usage, but also in terms of the lack of heat and UV that these fixtures generate.
Recently, the Museum was awarded a Green Tourism Award for London as an exemplar for sustainability in our construction and operations.
